Woman Robbed at Knifepoint Near Maspeth School: NYPD

A 62-year-old woman was robbed at knifepoint in broad daylight near an elementary school in Maspeth last week, police said.

On Aug. 22 at 1:30 p.m. the woman was walking at the corner of 60th Avenue and 60th Place near P.S. 153 when a man approached her, displaying a knife, and demanded money, according to cops.  

The woman handed over $20 and the man ran off down 60th Avenue. Police have released a photo and video footage of the suspect.

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.
