Ridgewood Fire Injures 9 Residents, Sends 5 to Hospital: FDNY

Five Ridgewood residents were taken to the hospital today following a fire that broke out in the early hours Wednesday morning.

The blaze erupted at around 4 a.m. in the basement of a three-story residential building located at 410 Menahan St., near Cypress Avenue.

The FDNY received a call at 4:10 a.m. and responded to the scene.

Nine residents and one firefighter sustained minor injuries. Five civilians were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and is currently under investigation, a spokesperson for the FDNY said.

The perpetrators allegedly forced their way into the victim’s apartment, punched him repeatedly in his body with closed fists, and forcibly removed $60 in cash and medication before fleeing the building in an unknown direction, police said Monday. EMS responded to the crime scene and transported the victim to Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, where he was listed in stable condition.
