First-generation American Jenifer Rajkumar appears to have unseated incumbent Michael Miller in the primary race for the State Assembly’s 38th District, which includes the neighborhoods of Woodhaven, Ridgewood, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park and Glendale.

Rajkumar, a lawyer and CUNY professor, is ahead of Miller with a 1,324 vote lead as of 6:15 a.m. when 99 percent of scanners had been reported, according to the NYC Board of Elections’ unofficial results.

Rajkumar had taken 52 percent of the vote; Miller had garnered nearly 26 percent and another challenger Joseph “Joey” De Jesus took nearly 22 percent.

The results are far from final, since an unprecedented number of absentee ballots have yet to be counted. The BOE will begin counting absentee ballots by hand after June 30.

Rajkumar’s lead, however, is is unlikely to be overcome.

Tuesday night’s unofficial results were gathered from in-person ballots cast on Election Day and during early voting.
