Update: Off-Duty Cop Who Shot Himself in Middle Village Has Died

An off-duty police officer who shot himself in the head inside his Middle Village home on Friday has died, according to reports.

The officer, identified as Nicholas Mencaroni, died shortly after he was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital on Jan. 25 from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police had responded to a 911 call in Middle Village at around 2:30 p.m., where they found the 41-year-old officer in critical condition.

The Daily News reports that the incident took place at the officer’s 69th Lane home near Juniper Boulevard.

What reason could possess someone of such a worthy profession do this. My heart to his family and asking God to give them strength.

A Forest Hills man is criminally charged with animal cruelty for allegedly keeping four dozen dogs in deplorable conditions inside his cramped one-bedroom apartment at 102-45 62nd Road.

Isaac Yadgarov, 37, was arraigned Monday in Queens Criminal Court on a 96-count criminal complaint charging him with animal neglect and abuse after the dogs were rescued from inside his squalid apartment by the Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and the NYPD on May 8 after Yadgarov was evicted from the apartment building.
