NYPD 104th Precinct to Get Much Needed Upgrades; Holden Still Searching for New Location

Ridgewood’s 104th Precinct House will finally get much needed upgrades to better serve New York’s finest in the upcoming months.

The precinct’s poor condition was first brought up when Council Member Robert Holden announced in October that he was searching for a location to build a new state-of-the-art precinct house in the area. Despite the planned renovations, Holden is continuing this search, he said.

The precinct building at 64-02 Catalpa Ave was built in 1929 and also lacks parking space for its police officers.

“We owe it to our officers, who don their uniforms to protect and serve the community, to build a new state-of-the-art facility that mirrors the 21st century,” Holden said in October. “My intent is to work with my colleagues in government to actively search for potential sites for precinct placement.”

On Aug. 8, the council member met with members of the NYPD facilities team and the 104th Precinct to review the blueprint for the changes in the building’s layout.

The main renovations will take place on the third floor, which currently houses the main locker room. This locker room will be moved to the basement and in its place, a new female locker, supervisor locker rooms, a community affairs office with a civilian lounge and new bathrooms will be made. An office and lockers for the Auxiliary Unit will also be included in the totally remade third floor.

The second and ground floors will also receive some upgrades. The second floor will get a new domestic violence case office, moving it up from its previous location in the basement and the ground floor’s main desk will be replaced and a new office will be constructed for the executive officer.

According to Holden’s office, the project is now in the design phase and should be completed by the end of 2020.

Despite the building’s upgrades, Holden is continuing to search for a new location. A spokesperson said that while there are possible locations out there, he has yet to find a particularly promising spot.
