FDNY Holding Open Houses Across the City This Weekend

More than 200 firehouses and EMS stations across New York City will be holding open houses this weekend as part of the FDNY’s fifth annual open house program.

The firehouses will open their doors to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday Oct. 6.

The FDNY is holding the open house weekend to educate the public about fire and safety, conduct demonstrations, discuss careers within the Department and offer tours.

Four stations across Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village and Freshpond will be staging open houses over the weekend.

Engine 286/Ladder 135 will be open to the public in Ridgewood while Engine 291/Ladder 140 will be open in Fresh Pond. Engine 319 in Middle Village will also be open as will Firehouse Squad 280 in Maspeth.

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.
