March 4, 2019  Staff Report

Police are investigating an incident that took place last week on an industrial street where Maspeth and Long Island City meet, where a group of men in two vehicles ambushed an unsuspecting driver in a failed robbery attempt.

The 65-year-old victim, according to police, had picked up cash and checks from a site near 46th Street and 54th Road at around 8 a.m. on Feb. 27 before driving to another location.

While driving on Laurel Hill Boulevard, the driver of a black sedan stopped in front of the victim’s car at Review Avenue, while another car, a gray SUV, blocked the victim’s car from the back, police said.

Two men then got out the gray SUV, headed toward the driver’s side of the victim’s car, and shattered his side window with an unknown object.

The two attempted to open the driver side door, but not before the 65-year-old driver sped away. The gray SUV and black sedan eventually left the scene, too.

Little information is available on the suspects, although police say the gray sedan had a total of three unknown men inside, including the driver. The black sedan only had one person—the unknown male driver—inside.

The gray SUV is described as an Infiniti with no front plate. The black Honda sedan also had no front plate.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-8477, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
