A freight train at the Ridgewood/Glendale border was hit with a peculiar crime last month when a group of men stole 3,500 cases of beer from one of its cars.

The train, located at the New York & Atlantic Railway transit facility near Cody Avenue and Cypress Avenue, was hit by three unknown thieves some time between 3:20 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 19, according to police.

It is unclear how the thieves were able to remove and transport the thousands of cases of beer, which police say were of the Corona brand.

An NYPD spokesperson said the stolen beers had a total value of $100,000.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the 104th Precinct Detective Squad at 718-386-2723.

“Beer stolen fr. a train in Ridgewood – NYC? Oh – YEA-Riiight! Now if cases of wine were stolen from a train in Ridgewood, NJ, THAT would be a tragedy!”

It’s an easy crime to solve, just stake out grocery stores and wait for someone buying a ton of limes ?

So this happened in broad daylight and was reported at 5:00 p.m. I don’t see how 3,500 cases of beer could just disappear without someone noticing. Did someone hide it under their sweatshirt and no one noticed the bulge? Did they ride away on a bicycle with it in the basket? Maybe its buried under some leaves by the fence! This should be a good story once solved!

It fell off the train. Just like all the TV’s and things that fall off the back of the trucks around LaGuardia.
Forget about it….?
