Ridgewood’s Onderdonk House will host its first-ever Christmas concert and market this Sunday.

The two events will take place at the historic Vander-Ende Onderdonk House, located at 1820 Flushing Ave., on Dec. 2, with vendors from the Ridgewood Market set to sell wares at the home’s picnic grove while the Christmas concert plays indoors.

A lineup of vendors will begin selling a variety of artisanal goods at the holiday-themed market, including clothing, art, and other handmade wares starting at 11 a.m.

Inside the festively decorated house, the Ministers of Apollo, a musical duo of colonial reenactors, will treat attendees to a Christmas concert at midday.

Visitors will be able to sing along to well-known Christmas songs and enjoy a few colonial classics, too.

“They’re magical,” said Linda Monte, a member of the Greater Ridgewood Historical Society board of directors, which maintains and operates out of the Onderdonk House. “We’re really looking forward to it.”

While the organizers are hoping for a mild December day, visitors will be able to warm up around the house’s fire circle if they’re feeling cold.

In past years, the only holiday celebration for the Onderdonk House has been Saint Nicholas Day—the Dutch celebration of Christmas that is observed on Dec. 6. As a special sneak preview, the Onderdonk House will have their annual Saint Nicholas exhibit ready to go in time for this weekend’s market.

The Greater Ridgewood Historical Society is hoping to make the market an annual tradition, Monte said.

Admission to the outdoor market will be free, and tickets to enter the house will be sold for $5 for adults. Children will be admitted for free.
