Police have arrested a 28-year-old Glendale resident for the hit-and-run death of a man in Forest Hills that took place Sunday.
Irving Duran was arrested at his house Monday after police were able to identify his vehicle and track him down via his registration, police said.
Duran has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, according to police.
The incident took place at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday when Duran allegedly struck Niklas Ahern, a Manhattan resident, while the victim was crossing Continental Avenue at the Slocum Crescent intersection.
When police arrived, they discovered Ahern unconscious and unresponsive, lying on the roadway with trauma to his head and body. EMS transported him to Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to a police investigation, Duran struck Ahern while he was driving northbound on Continental Avenue. He hit Ahern while the victim was crossing from the northeast corner of the Exeter Street-Continental intersection to the southwest corner of the Slocum Crescent-Continental Avenue intersection.
Duran continued traveling northbound and did not stop.
