Police have arrested and charged a man in connection to a fatal beating of a homeless man in Ridgewood earlier this month.
Jeremiah McCarthy, 54, also homeless, allegedly beat Constantin Palaghia, 54, to death near the intersection of Seneca Avenue and Myrtle Avenue at around 9 p.m. on Oct. 6.
Police found Palaghia unresponsive and unconscious at the scene that night with trauma to the head. He was later transported to an area hospital and then died as a result of his injuries on Thursday, Oct. 10.
Police arrested McCarthy after Palaghia died and charged him with assault. The investigation is still ongoing and police are treating the incident as a homicide. The charges have yet to be upgraded.
