Amazon Turns to Maspeth for New Distribution Center: Report

The possible site of a new Amazon distribution center | Google Maps

Aug. 2, 2019 by Allie Griffin

While Amazon backed out of Long Island City, the e-commerce giant is eyeing another Queens neighborhood — this time for a distribution facility, according to a recent report.

The company is looking into leasing an industrial site at 55-15 Grand Avenue in Maspeth Crain’s first reported, citing “sources familiar with the firm’s real estate plans.”

While an Amazon spokeswoman told the site they “have nothing confirmed” in Queens, the property is already being cleared for potential building. It was purchased by RXR Realty and LBA Realty last year for $72 million.

The news comes as the company is expanding their New York City operations with an existing fulfillment center on Staten Island, a planned distribution center in Woodside, Queens, and another planned in the South Bronx.

Reports of Amazon looking into opening a logistics facility in Brooklyn’s Industry City and office space in Manhattan would mean the trillion dollar company would have a presence in each of the five boroughs.

The Galloping Trio

Will the unholy trinity of AOC, little Jimmy VB and Gianaris screw this up like they did before? How many jobs have they created? Can any one of them say that because of their own efforts jobs were created? Funny how they never talk about the actual jobs they helped create.

Why did they move away from the Bulova building? I thought the fulfillment center was separate from the HQ2 and they wanted a spot close to LGA.

I guess that’s our consolation prize since the NYT campaign to make sure HDQ2 would not be in LIC.

Exactly. Unfortunately the $150,000 jobs with their ripple effect (ie. restaurants, grocery stores, florists, pharmacies, etc) in western Queens are gone and replaced with warehouse jobs in Maspeth at $15 hr thanks to JVB, AOC and Gianaris

This is not the same thing. The offices in LIC were for high-end jobs that were going to build more schools, improve transportation, etc. This is just a warehouse for minimum wage workers. They should have to unionize these jobs.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
