For the 17th year in a row, Relay for Life will return to Middle Village in support of the American Cancer Society.
The overnight event will kick off on Saturday June 22 in Juniper Valley Park with an opening ceremony beginning at 4 p.m. on the park’s running track. Following the ceremony, teams comprised of cancer survivors and caregivers will then take to the track where they will spend all night taking turns walking laps.
At 10 p.m., a candle lighting ceremony will take place in commemoration of those who have lost their lives to the disease, as well as those who are continuing to fight.
Food, drinks, music and entertainment will be ongoing throughout the night and into the morning, including a three-legged race, limbo, charades, pin the tail on the mermaid and a water balloon toss.
A closing ceremony will take place at 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 23.
Money raised from the event will go towards the educational programs, cancer research, and patient advocacy carried out by the American Cancer Society.
